Source-derived summary

The University of Rajasthan (राजस्थान विश्वविद्यालय), formerly known as the University of Rajputana, is a public state university in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. It was established as the University of Rajputana on 8 January 1947 and was renamed the University of Rajasthan in 1956.

The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Its jurisdiction is currently limited to the districts of Jaipur and Dausa.

The University of Rajasthan has nine faculties, 35 departments, 19 research centres and seven constituent colleges. The university also maintains a large network of affiliated colleges in its jurisdiction.

The university is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In its third accreditation cycle, it received an A+ grade, following an A+ grade in the first cycle and an A grade in the second cycle.

History

Establishment

The origins of the University of Rajasthan can be traced to proposals for a separate university serving the princely states of Rajputana during the 1920s. The issue arose partly from changes in the conditions of affiliation associated with Allahabad University, to which colleges in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer were affiliated.

Editorial summary

Begin with the source’s own compact description: “University of Rajasthan” is state public university in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through University, Rajasthan and state, not as a finished interpretation.

Editorial reviewA strong contextual entry point for chronology, institutions and public events when official records are distinguished from later interpretation. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—1947, 1956—that can be checked directly. The authority record carries competing date values—1948, 1947—which should remain separate until their references and qualifiers are resolved. For this dossier, University, Rajasthan and state is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “state public university in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Chronology, provenance and viewpoint should be read together before a broad social or political interpretation is accepted. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 25, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q7896201. VIAF identifies the subject as 122600997. The Library of Congress control number is n80035844. Authority coordinates are 26.885, 75.820. 3 of 6 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1947 and 1956.

Critical limits

Later summaries often reconcile disputed chronology or motive more neatly than the contemporary record permits. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Compare institutional narratives with records created by participants and affected communities. Dates and formal titles are useful anchors, but not substitutes for context.
