Source-derived summary

Syzygium maraca is a plant in the clove family Myrtaceae found only in the Wet Tropics bioregion of Queensland, Australia. It was first described in 2005 and has been given the conservation status of least concern. It has an affinity with Syzygium alliiligneum.

Description

Syzygium maraca is a small evergreen tree up to 24 m (79 ft) tall and 70 cm (28 in) trunk diameter, with flaking or peeling, brown or red-brown bark. The leaf-bearing twigs are about 2 mm (0.1 in) in diameter and may be rounded or slightly flattened. The leaves are simple (undivided) and arranged in opposite pairs on the twigs. The leaf blades are elliptic to obovate, measure up to 13 cm (5.1 in) long by 6 cm (2.4 in) wide, and are held on a petiole about 10 mm (0.4 in) long. They have between 8 and 16 straight and evenly spaced lateral veins on either side of the midrib, which diverge from the midrib at an angle between 50° and 70°. An intramarginal vein is present just inside the leaf margin.

The inflorescences are cymes produced either at the end of the twigs or in the outermost leaf axils, and they carry between one and four flowers.

Editorial summary

This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Syzygium maraca” as species of flowering plant. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.

Editorial reviewA practical orientation to terminology and classification, particularly when read beside dated observations, specimens or technical literature. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2005—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. The account is most persuasive where Syzygium, maraca and species can be independently traced.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The subject matters to the science & nature register because the source frames it as species of flowering plant. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.

Evidence profile

The date and method of observation matter as much as the stated conclusion, especially where classification or consensus has changed. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jul 16, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q15385047. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2005.

Critical limits

Scientific names, classifications and consensus can change while older terminology persists in catalogues and historical literature. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Check terminology, classification and the date of the cited evidence. Scientific names and technical consensus can change while older records retain historical value.

Three-step research path

  1. Establish the record: confirm the title “Syzygium maraca”, its source revision and the description used here.
  2. Expand the search: follow Syzygium maraca primary sources, Syzygium maraca archive and Syzygium research across catalogues and specialist indexes.
  3. Test the account: compare the strongest cited source with the responsible institution’s current record and note any disagreement.

Questions for further research

  1. Which source most directly establishes the central claim about “Syzygium maraca”?
  2. Which observation, specimen, dataset or publication supports the account?
  3. Is the terminology current, historical or disputed?
