sailboat class

The Sun Way 28 is a French sailboat that was designed by Tony Castro as an offshore cruiser and first built in 1987.
The Sun Way 28 is a development of the Arcadia 30 and is an updated version of the Sun Dream 28.
Production
The design was built by Jeanneau in France, from 1987 until 1992, but it is now out of production.
Design
The Sun Way 28 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a fractional sloop rig, with aluminum spars with stainless steel wire rigging. The hull has a raked stem, a rounded reverse transom, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a tiller and a fixed fin keel or optional stub keel and centerboard. The fin keel model displaces 5,291 lb (2,400 kg) and carries 1,764 lb (800 kg) of ballast, while the centerboard version displaces 5,732 lb (2,600 kg) and has twin rudders.
The keel-equipped version of the boat has a draft of 4.92 ft (1.50 m), while the centerboard-equipped version has a draft of 5.08 ft (1.55 m) with the centerboard extended and 2.13 ft (0.65 m) with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water.
The boat is fitted with a Swedish Volvo 2002 diesel engine for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds 7 U.S. gallons (26 L; 5.8 imp gal) and the fresh water tank has a capacity of 26 U.S. gallons (98 L; 22 imp gal).

Why this record matters
A short description can identify a subject without explaining its stakes. For “Sun Way 28”, the useful work is to connect “sailboat class” to the records capable of establishing context and consequence.
Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 1, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q115819565. 1 of 1 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1987, 1992 and 2002.
Overview language is designed for orientation and should not be treated as a substitute for the evidence cited beneath it. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
