Geography

Štítary is located about 16 kilometres (10 mi) northwest of Znojmo and 61 km (38 mi) southwest of Brno. It lies in the Jevišovice Uplands. History

The first written mention of Štítary is from 1346, when King Charles IV promoted the settlement to a market town. It belonged to the Vranov estate. During the Thirty Years' War, the market town was badly damaged and it took several decades to recover. Another disaster was a fire in 1706.

Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

“Štítary” is worth following because a concise public description often conceals a longer documentary argument. Here, Štítary, městys and South provides the most credible route into that argument.

Evidence profile

Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Aug 27, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q392523. Authority coordinates are 48.935, 15.844. 2 of 2 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1346 and 1706.

Critical limits

Overview language is designed for orientation and should not be treated as a substitute for the evidence cited beneath it. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
