Source-derived summary

Spinomantis lavabato is a species of frog in the family Mantellidae. It is endemic to the high-altitude rainforest of Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar.

Etymology

The specific name lavabato is a Malagasy word/phrase literally meaning "rock hole" or "cave".

Description

Both adult males and females are small, with males measuring 24.2 to 24.4 mm (~1 inch) in snout-vent length and the single known female measuring 26.7 mm (1.05 in). It possesses a slender body and a head that is longer than it is wide. In dorsal view, the snout is slightly pointed, while in lateral view it appears rounded. The tympanum is distinct and rounded. The fingers and toes bear distinctly enlarged disks. They are unwebbed, and the toes exhibit only rudimentary webbing. The skin on the dorsum is smooth.

Editorial summary

The public source identifies “Spinomantis lavabato” as species of frog. This brief keeps that definition visible, then builds a research path around Spinomantis, lavabato and species.

Editorial reviewUseful for establishing the present vocabulary of the subject while preserving a route back to the evidence on which that vocabulary rests. The current 130-word lead offers orientation but no explicit four-digit date, so chronology should not be assumed. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. Its value is orientation rather than verdict, with Spinomantis, lavabato and species providing the first useful test.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

A short description can identify a subject without explaining its stakes. For “Spinomantis lavabato”, the useful work is to connect “species of frog” to the records capable of establishing context and consequence.

Evidence profile

Stable identifiers, scientific names and standards terminology offer the best bridge between this overview and specialist evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jan 14, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q137668032. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference.

Critical limits

Scientific names, classifications and consensus can change while older terminology persists in catalogues and historical literature. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Check terminology, classification and the date of the cited evidence. Scientific names and technical consensus can change while older records retain historical value.
