Source-derived summary

Antoine Louis François Sergent, called Sergent-Marceau (1751–1847) was a French painter and printmaker.

He was active during the French Revolution, and sat on the National Convention in 1792.

In 1789, Sergent worked with engraver Marie Louise Marceau-Desgraviers, sister of the revolutionary general François Séverin Marceau, on a project to create portraits of the French legislative assembly. Marceau later took the first name Emira (an anagram of Marie), and Sergent and Marceau married in 1795.

Editorial summary

The public source identifies “Antoine Louis François Sergent dit Sergent-Marceau” as french printmaker and painter (1751-1847). This brief keeps that definition visible, then builds a research path around Antoine, Louis and François.

Editorial reviewA practical starting point whose main value is the path it opens into stronger specialist and primary sources. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—1751, 1847, 1792, 1789—that can be checked directly. The authority record carries competing date values—1751-01-01, 1751-09-09, 1751-10-09—which should remain separate until their references and qualifiers are resolved. Its value is orientation rather than verdict, with Antoine, Louis and François providing the first useful test.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

A short description can identify a subject without explaining its stakes. For “Antoine Louis François Sergent dit Sergent-Marceau”, the useful work is to connect “french printmaker and painter (1751-1847)” to the records capable of establishing context and consequence.

Evidence profile

The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Aug 28, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q4775505. VIAF identifies the subject as 7447319. The Library of Congress control number is n87133811. 4 of 6 selected statements include explicit references; 2 carry qualifiers and 2 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1751, 1847, 1792 and 1789.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it
