Lacanobia w-latinum
species of insect

Lacanobia w-latinum, the light brocade, is a moth of the family Noctuidae. The species was first described by Johann Siegfried Hufnagel in 1766. It is found in Europe, east to Turkmenistan and Anatolia.
Description
The wingspan is 36–41 mm. The species is very similar to Lacanobia contigua. The forewing ground colour is red brown, violet brown, silver grey and dark brown. The reniform and orbicular stains are large and partially reddish tinted. The basal dash is very dark and striking. The midfield and extreme marginal area also stand out also dark, while the inner marginal field is grey brown to silver grey. In the subterminal light wavy line, a large W character is visible, which serves as the basis for the Latin name w-latinum.
This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Lacanobia w-latinum” as species of insect. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.
Why this record matters
The subject matters to the science & nature register because the source frames it as species of insect. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.
Stable identifiers, scientific names and standards terminology offer the best bridge between this overview and specialist evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Dec 19, 2024. The linked authority identifier is Q1312374. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 1766.
A general summary may omit uncertainty, sample limits or methodological disagreement that is explicit in the technical record. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
