Source-derived summary

The Mosman Golf Club was established in 1923 on Middle Head, in the Sydney harbourside suburb of Mosman. The club officiated the construction and management of a 24 hectare, 9-hole golf course built on land acquired from the Commonwealth government under a 21-year lease on the condition that, if required, the land could be repossessed without compensation.

This occurred in 1940, with the onset of World War II, when the Australian Government resumed the land and the clubhouse for military use. The club was closed consequently.

Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “former golf club in Sydney, Australia” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jun 30, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q6916391. Authority coordinates are -33.836, 151.249. None of the 2 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 1923 and 1940.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
