Source-derived summary

The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera Emmerdale in 2002, by order of first appearance.

Elvis Dingle

Elvis Dingle is the cousin of Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell), who is married to Marilyn. He first appears in the village in 2002, when they leave Zak's mother Peg with Zak at Wishing Well Cottage before quickly leaving Emmerdale. By July 2002, Zak had had enough of her and concocted a plan to return her to Elvis and Marilyn by telling them that she had won a large sum of money in a prize draw, with Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) as the prizegiver. This failed when they recognised Rodney in the photo and realised it was a con. They also tried faking Peg's death with a coffin and a fake wake, but this also failed.

Elvis, Marilyn and their sons, Brando Dingle and Daniel Dingle, return in October 2004 to join Zak and his family celebrate their 10th anniversary of living in Emmerdale. Elvis is mentioned in 2014 on the day of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Moira Barton's (Natalie J Robb) wedding.

Marilyn Dingle

Marilyn Dingle is the wife of Elvis Dingle. She first appears in Emmerdale in 2002 when they arrive at Wishing Well Cottage unexpectedly to leave Zak Dingle's (Steve Halliwell) mother Peg with Zak before quickly leaving Emmerdale.

The account is most persuasive where List, Emmerdale and characters can be independently traced.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The subject matters to the general reference register because the source frames it as wikimedia list article. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.

Evidence profile

Vocabulary and entity names are the principal evidence signals here, because they determine the precision of every later search. The source revision retrieved here is dated Aug 14, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q11818544. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2002, 2004 and 2014.

Critical limits

The absence of detail may reflect summary conventions rather than a lack of surviving documentation. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
