Koškovce
municipality of Slovakia

Koškovce is a village and municipality in Humenné District in the Prešov Region of north-east Slovakia.
History
In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1543. The village is documented from 1543 as Koskoc, later as Koskowcze 1773; in Hungarian Koskóc.
It belonged to the Humenné estate, in the late 17th and 18th centuries to the Csáky family, and in the 19th century to the Andrássy family. The old church was built in 1584 in the Romanesque style. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Its present-day form in the classicist style is from the beginning of the 19th century. In 1715, the village had 7 abandoned and 7 inhabited households, in 1787 it had 46 houses and 320 inhabitants, in 1828 it had 64 houses and 480 inhabitants. They made a living by carting, logging, weaving and making wooden tools. In the 19th century, there was a quarry in the village.

Authority coordinates are 49.048, 21.955. 3 of 4 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1543, 1773, 1584 and 1715.
A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
