Kienberg (Swiss Standard German pronunciation: [ˈkiːnbɛrɡ] ) is a municipality in the district of Gösgen in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.
History
Kienberg is first mentioned in 1173 as Vlricus et Hartmannus de Chienberh. In 1276 it was mentioned as dorff ze Kiemberg.
Geography
Kienberg has an area, as of 2009, of 8.53 square kilometers (3.29 sq mi). Of this area, 4.25 km2 (1.64 sq mi) or 49.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 3.9 km2 (1.5 sq mi) or 45.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.37 km2 (0.14 sq mi) or 4.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.03 km2 (7.4 acres) or 0.4% is unproductive land.
