Source-derived summary

Kallmet (def. 'Kallmeti') is a red grape variety indigenous to the Zadrima region of northwestern Albania. It is regarded as one of the country’s most important wine grapes and has long been cultivated in the municipalities of Mirditë, Lezhë, Shkodër and Malësi e Madhe.

The variety is primarily used for the production of dry red wines, although it can also be utilized in the making of rakia, brandy and, to a lesser extent, as a table grape.

Kallmet is genetically similar to Hungary's Kadarka grape, likely derived from Skadar, the Slavic name for Shkodër.

Ampelography

Kallmet, known locally as Gjashtore and Zadrimore, exists in two recognized phenotypic forms:

Kallmet i Zi (Black Kallmet) is by far the most widespread form. It produces elongated grape clusters with dark brown to black berries and ripens between 10 and 20 September. It is the primary form used for red wine production and is also consumed fresh.

Kallmet i Bardhë (White Kallmet) is considerably rarer. It ripens around the middle of September and is used for white wine production and fresh consumption.

Editorial summary

This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Kallmet (grape)” as albanian grape variety. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.

Editorial reviewA practical starting point whose main value is the path it opens into stronger specialist and primary sources. The current 178-word lead offers orientation but no explicit four-digit date, so chronology should not be assumed. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. The account is most persuasive where Kallmet, grape and Albanian can be independently traced.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The subject matters to the general reference register because the source frames it as albanian grape variety. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.

Evidence profile

The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Aug 20, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q141285582. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference.

Critical limits

Overview language is designed for orientation and should not be treated as a substitute for the evidence cited beneath it. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
