The airport is owned by the University of Mississippi. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.

Facilities and aircraft

University-Oxford Airport covers an area of 297 acres (120 ha) at an elevation of 452 feet (138 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 9/27 with an asphalt surface measuring 5,600 by 100 feet (1,707 x 30 m).

Historical air service

Republic Airlines took over both routes using Swearingen Metroliners after they merged with Southern Airways in 1979.

Editorial reviewA strong orientation record where physical form, institutional use and historical geography need to be read together. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2011, 2015, 2021, 1975—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. For this dossier, University-Oxford, Airport and airport is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “airport in Mississippi, United States of America” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Place names and jurisdictional language are key evidence: both can reveal earlier catalogue descriptions and overlooked record series. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jul 7, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q7894481. Authority coordinates are 34.384, -89.537. 2 of 2 selected statements include explicit references; 1 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 2011, 2015, 2021 and 1975.

Critical limits

Modern boundaries and familiar names can conceal earlier jurisdictions or structures that do not align with the present site. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Treat names, boundaries and functions as historically changeable. Maps, plans, inventories and administrative records can clarify what the place meant at different dates.
