Source-derived summary

Hylarana taipehensis is a species of "true frog", family Ranidae. It has several common names, including Taipei frog, Taipei grass frog, two-striped grass frog, or striped slender frog. Following its redelimitation in 2019, its range is now believed to extend from Taiwan and southern China (including Hainan) to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and eastern Thailand. It has been observed as high as 800 meters above sea level.

Description

Males are usually less than 3 cm (1.2 in) in snout-vent length and females less than 4 cm (1.6 in). The dorsum is yellowish green to greenish brown and the sides are light yellowish brown. Paired dorso-lateral glandular folds are visible as brownish black lines. The limbs are light brown and have dark brown stripes. The abdomen and neck have tiny spots and have three brownish black stripes each. The tympanum and the region behind and below it are dark blackish brown in color.

Editorial summary

Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Hylarana taipehensis” is species of amphibian. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Hylarana, taipehensis and species, not as a finished interpretation.

Editorial reviewA sound reference starting point where classification, measurement and the date of the underlying evidence remain visible. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2019—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. For this dossier, Hylarana, taipehensis and species is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “species of amphibian” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

The date and method of observation matter as much as the stated conclusion, especially where classification or consensus has changed. The source revision retrieved here is dated May 5, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q698122. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2019.

Critical limits

A general summary may omit uncertainty, sample limits or methodological disagreement that is explicit in the technical record. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Check terminology, classification and the date of the cited evidence. Scientific names and technical consensus can change while older records retain historical value.
