History

Kyung Hee University began in 1949 as Sin Heung Junior College, a 2-year college. It was named for the 1911–1920 Sinhŭng Military Academy, which trained militant Korean independence activists. Amid the financial crisis of the Korean War, Young Seek Choue bought the struggling school in 1951 and had it accredited as a 4-year undergraduate college in 1952.

Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

“Kyung Hee University” is worth following because a concise public description often conceals a longer documentary argument. Here, Kyung, University and private provides the most credible route into that argument.

Evidence profile

The record creator and administrative purpose are central evidence, because official documentation reflects both action and institutional priorities. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 13, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q496536. VIAF identifies the subject as 154783959. The Library of Congress control number is n81130230. Authority coordinates are 37.597, 127.052. 2 of 5 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1949, 2020, 1911 and 1920.

Critical limits

Later summaries often reconcile disputed chronology or motive more neatly than the contemporary record permits. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Compare institutional narratives with records created by participants and affected communities. Dates and formal titles are useful anchors, but not substitutes for context.
