Austrobela fulvotincta
species of mollusc

Austrobela fulvotincta is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae.
Description
The length of the shell attains 33 mm, its diameter 13 mm.
The spire of the rather solid shell is composed of 9 whorls, separated by a well marked suture. The whorls of the protoconch consist of curved longitudinal ribs and are, at the bottom, finely reticulated. A little below the middle of the subsequent whorls, occur a series of longitudinal, tuberculous plicae. These tubercles are protruding, rounded, very regularly arranged and give the whorls a streamlined appearance. There are 15 plicae on the penultimate whorl, 20 on the body whorl These plicae do not extend to the suture. On the body whorl however, they continue downward in an obsolete manner. The infra-sutural zone, is wide, sloping, with very arched growth lines, a little more developed close to the suture. The whole surface, with the exception of the infra-sutural zone, is crossed by small, thin, and regular growth lines, a little less wide than their intervals.
Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Austrobela fulvotincta” is species of mollusc. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Austrobela, fulvotincta and species, not as a finished interpretation.
Why this record matters
The phrase “species of mollusc” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.
Stable identifiers, scientific names and standards terminology offer the best bridge between this overview and specialist evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated May 21, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q5624562. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference.
Current terminology should not be projected backward without checking the classification used when the underlying evidence was created. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
