Source-derived summary

Godzilla: Unleashed is a 3D fighting video game based on Toho's Godzilla franchise. It was developed by Pipeworks Software and published by Atari. The game was released in North America on November 20, 2007 for PlayStation 2; and on December 5 of the same year for the Wii. A Nintendo DS version, titled Godzilla Unleashed: Double Smash, was developed by Santa Cruz Games and released in North America on December 5, 2007.

Unleashed serves as a sequel to 2004's Godzilla: Save the Earth, itself a sequel to 2002's Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. The game features over 20 Kaiju and Mechas from the Shōwa (1954–1975), Heisei (1984–1995), and Millennium (1999–2004) era films, as well as two original Toho-approved creations.

Gameplay

Like its predecessors, Godzilla Unleashed plays as a 3D fighting game with the option to play with up to four monsters in free-for-all or team battles. While the PS2 version involves only button presses, the Wii version uses a combination of button presses and motion control using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Basic punch and kick attacks are through the A and B buttons while more powerful and aggressive strikes require swinging of the remote up, down or sideways while pressing A and/or B. Movement is done by the analog stick on the Nunchuk, and flicking it upwards allows players to jump. Flicking both the remote and Nunchuk allows monsters to grab nearby opponents or environmental objects, and throw them.

Editorial summary

Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Godzilla: Unleashed” is 2007 video game. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Godzilla, Unleashed and video, not as a finished interpretation.

Editorial reviewA practical starting point whose main value is the path it opens into stronger specialist and primary sources. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2007, 2004, 2002, 1954—that can be checked directly. The authority record carries competing date values—2007-12-05, 2008-02-29, 2008-02-22—which should remain separate until their references and qualifiers are resolved. For this dossier, Godzilla, Unleashed and video is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “2007 video game” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 20, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q2241522. 3 of 4 selected statements include explicit references; 4 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 2007, 2004, 2002 and 1954.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
