Fotbal Club Drobeta-Turnu Severin, commonly known as FC Drobeta, was a Romanian football club based in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Mehedinți County. Its history is traced to a club established in 1958 as Drubeta Turnu Severin, after the dissolution of the historic CFR Turnu Severin. Over the following decades, the team competed under several names, including Metalul Turnu Severin, Metalul Drobeta-Turnu Severin, CSM Drobeta-Turnu Severin and AS Drobeta-Turnu Severin, spending numerous seasons in the second and third tiers of Romanian football.
The club should not be confused with three other football projects associated with the city: the historic CFR Turnu Severin, founded in 1928 and winner of the 1943 Cupa României; CS Turnu Severin, the former Gaz Metan CFR Craiova club which relocated to the city and played in Liga I in 2012–13; or CS Drobeta-Turnu Severin, a new municipally backed club founded in 2025 which earned promotion to Liga III in 2026.
History
Drubeta and Metalul (1958–1976)
The club was founded in 1958 under the name Drubeta Turnu Severin, with Drubeta being a historical spelling variant of Drobeta, inspired by the ancient Roman castrum located in the area of modern Drobeta-Turnu Severin.
Drubeta appeared immediately after the disappearance of CFR Turnu Severin, the railway-backed club which had represented the city since 1928 and had won the 1942–43 Cupa României. The new club took CFR's place in Divizia C, although it was a distinct organisation from the former Romanian Cup winners.
In its first season, Drubeta finished 2nd in Series VI. Following a restructuring which expanded Divizia B to three series, the club was admitted to the second tier. It finished 12th in 1959–60 and 14th in 1960–61, before returning to the regional championship when the third division was again temporarily abolished.
Drubeta won the 1961–62 Oltenia Regional Championship and qualified for the promotion tournament.
