Source-derived summary

The Twelfth Doctor is an incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. He is portrayed by Scottish actor Peter Capaldi in three series as well as four specials. As with previous incarnations of the Doctor, the character has also appeared in other Doctor Who spin-offs, both during and after the character's televised appearances.

The Doctor is an extraterrestrial being from a humanoid species known as Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor travels through space and time using a time travelling spaceship called the TARDIS and frequently travels with companions. When a Time Lord is fatally injured or weakened by old age, their cells regenerate into a new body, while they retain their memories, their personality changes. The different portrayals of the Doctor function as distinct stages within a single, continuous narrative. Capaldi's portrayal of the Doctor is initially a spiky, brusque, contemplative, and pragmatic character who conceals his emotions in the course of making tough and sometimes ruthless decisions. Very quickly, however, he becomes extremely humanitarian and compassionate, and more openly showcases his selflessness. Preceded in regeneration by the Eleventh Doctor, he is followed by the Thirteenth Doctor.

Editorial summary

The public source identifies “Twelfth Doctor” as fictional character from Doctor Who. This brief keeps that definition visible, then builds a research path around Twelfth, Doctor and fictional.

Editorial reviewA concise reference frame for defining the subject, testing terminology and identifying the institution closest to the evidence. The current 198-word lead offers orientation but no explicit four-digit date, so chronology should not be assumed. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. Its value is orientation rather than verdict, with Twelfth, Doctor and fictional providing the first useful test.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

A short description can identify a subject without explaining its stakes. For “Twelfth Doctor”, the useful work is to connect “fictional character from Doctor Who” to the records capable of establishing context and consequence.

Evidence profile

The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 16, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q14460218. None of the 1 selected statements returned an explicit reference.

Critical limits

The absence of detail may reflect summary conventions rather than a lack of surviving documentation. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it
