Source-derived summary

The Côte Aftissate-Boujdour is a Ramsar site that stretches along 50 kilometres (31 mi) of the Western Sahara coast south of Boujdour.

It includes the fishing village of Aftissat.

Location

The Côte Aftissate-Boujdour is located in Jraifia commune, Boujdour Province in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region. The protected area covers 117 square kilometres (45 sq mi). It extends along the Atlantic coast for 50 kilometres (31 mi). The site was designated on 16 April 2019.

Along this section of the coast a beach and mobile dunes separate the sea from a continuous low-lying furrow of land below a 70 metres (230 ft) high sea cliff.

Ecology

The Côte Aftissate-Boujdour is at the southern edge of the Palearctic ecozone.

The climate is strongly influenced by coastal upwelling.

The wetland is a resting area for Palearctic seabirds, waders and land migrants, and for passerines in particular.

Editorial summary

Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Côte Aftissate-Boujdour” is ramsar site in Western Sahara. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Côte, Aftissate-Boujdour and Ramsar, not as a finished interpretation.

Editorial reviewA practical starting point whose main value is the path it opens into stronger specialist and primary sources. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2019—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. For this dossier, Côte, Aftissate-Boujdour and Ramsar is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “ramsar site in Western Sahara” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jul 5, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q109238078. Authority coordinates are 25.800, -14.583. None of the 1 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2019.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
