Bank Sepah
Iranian banking and financial services corporation

Bank Sepah (Persian: بانک سپه, Bānke Sepah, lit. 'Bank of the Army') is a major bank in Iran with historical links with the country's military community, headquartered in Tehran. It was established in 1925 as the first modern domestic Iranian bank, as opposed to the foreign-owned Imperial Bank of Persia. Owned by the Iranian government, it has been referred to as a financial platform for the country's Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics.
History
Bank Sepah was founded on 4 May 1925, initially known as Bank Pahlavi Qoshun (lit. 'Pahlavi Army Bank') in Tehran, with a capital of 388,395 tomans (3.88 million rials). It was intended to handle the financial affairs of the military personnel and set up their retirement fund. With further increase in their domain of services, the headquarters for the bank was moved to a larger building in Homayoon Street. Starting on 15 March 1926, with opening of another branch in Rasht, Bank Sepah began providing services not only to the military personnel but to the more general public such as businessmen. Also in 1926, it changed its name to Bank Sepah.
Bank Sepah opened a branch in London in 1972, which in 2002 was reorganized as a fully owned subsidiary named Bank Sepah International Plc (BSIP). It also has branches in Frankfurt, Paris and Rome.
This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Bank Sepah” as iranian banking and financial services corporation. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.
Why this record matters
The subject matters to the general reference register because the source frames it as iranian banking and financial services corporation. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.
The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jun 14, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q2882624. VIAF identifies the subject as 142759013. The Library of Congress control number is n2008079307. 1 of 4 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1925, 1926, 1972 and 2002.
The absence of detail may reflect summary conventions rather than a lack of surviving documentation. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
