Source-derived summary

Christian Gueintz (13 October 1592 – 3 April 1650) was a teacher and writer-grammarian. He was qualified and taught in several mainstream subjects of the time, notably philosophy, theology, and law.

He lived during the first half of the seventeenth century, a period characterised by Baroque architecture and, in northern Germany, repeatedly disrupted by destructive war, which at various points had a dislocating impact on his career, and through which he demonstrated impressive qualities of persistence.

Life

Guenitz was born in Kohlo near Guben, roughly 40 kilometres (25 mi) north-east of Cottbus. His father was a protestant pastor. His mother, Ursula, was the daughter of another evangelical pastor, called Daniel Kretschmar. He attended school in Cottbus but had to leave when much of the city was destroyed by fire in 1608. Subsequently his school career took him to Guben, Crossen (1608/09), Sorau (1609–1612), Bautzen (1612) and Stettin (1613). When he was 23, on 23 June 1615 he entered the university at Wittemberg (often identified in contemporary sources as "Leucorea"). Unusually it was just fifteen months later, on 24 September 1616, that he became a "Magister".

Editorial summary

This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Christian Gueintz” as german educationist and educator. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.

Editorial reviewA practical starting point whose main value is the path it opens into stronger specialist and primary sources. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—1592, 1650, 1608, 1609—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. The account is most persuasive where Christian, Gueintz and German can be independently traced.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The subject matters to the general reference register because the source frames it as german educationist and educator. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.

Evidence profile

Vocabulary and entity names are the principal evidence signals here, because they determine the precision of every later search. The source revision retrieved here is dated May 31, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q1080054. The first chronological checks are 1592, 1650, 1608 and 1609.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.
