Camposanto
Italian comune

Camposanto (Modenese: Campsànt; Mirandolese: Campsènt) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northwest of Bologna and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northeast of Modena on the Panaro river. Although the name in Italian literally means "holy field", which normally means "cemetery" in Italian, its original (Latin) name, "Campus Sanctus", probably honoured the 14th century Ferrara family of Santi, who owned the land.
The Battle of Campo Santo was fought here in 1743.
Camposanto borders the following municipalities: Bomporto, Crevalcore, Finale Emilia, Medolla, Ravarino, San Felice sul Panaro, San Prospero.
In May 2012 Camposanto was the epicenter of a 6.0-magnitude earthquake.
“Camposanto” enters the record as italian comune. Crown Archives preserves that source wording while asking what Camposanto, Italian and comune can confirm, complicate or overturn.
Why this record matters
“Camposanto” is worth following because a concise public description often conceals a longer documentary argument. Here, Camposanto, Italian and comune provides the most credible route into that argument.
The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 17, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q100040. Authority coordinates are 44.799, 11.154. None of the 2 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 1743 and 2012.
Overview language is designed for orientation and should not be treated as a substitute for the evidence cited beneath it. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
