Source-derived summary

Incilius pisinnus (common name: Michoacan toad) is a species of "true" toads in the family Bufonidae. It is endemic to Mexico and known from the Tepalcatepec Valley in Michoacán. Prior to its description in 2005, it was mixed with Incilius coccifer and Incilius cycladen. The specific name pisinnus, from the Latin word for "small", refers to the comparatively small size of this species among its close relatives.

Description

Adult males measure 39–51 mm (1.5–2.0 in) and adult females 55–62 mm (2.2–2.4 in) in snout–vent length. The body is robust. The snout is pointed in dorsal view and rounded in profile. The tympanum is distinct. The fingers are short, slender, and have no webbing nor fringes, whereas the toes have some webbing and the inner toes have also lateral fringes. The canthal, supraorbital, supratympanic, postorbital, preorbital, pretympanic, and supralabial crests are present.

Editorial summary

Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Incilius pisinnus” is species of Amphibia. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Incilius, pisinnus and species, not as a finished interpretation.

Editorial reviewA sound reference starting point where classification, measurement and the date of the underlying evidence remain visible. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2005—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. For this dossier, Incilius, pisinnus and species is the immediate research focus.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

The phrase “species of Amphibia” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.

Evidence profile

Stable identifiers, scientific names and standards terminology offer the best bridge between this overview and specialist evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 13, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q28031932. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2005.

Critical limits

A general summary may omit uncertainty, sample limits or methodological disagreement that is explicit in the technical record. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Check terminology, classification and the date of the cited evidence. Scientific names and technical consensus can change while older records retain historical value.

Three-step research path

  1. Establish the record: confirm the title “Incilius pisinnus”, its source revision and the description used here.
  2. Expand the search: follow Incilius pisinnus primary sources, Incilius pisinnus archive and Incilius research across catalogues and specialist indexes.
  3. Test the account: compare the strongest cited source with the responsible institution’s current record and note any disagreement.

Questions for further research

  1. Which source most directly establishes the central claim about “Incilius pisinnus”?
  2. Has classification or technical consensus changed since the cited source?
  3. Is the terminology current, historical or disputed?
