Bionic Commando (1988 video game)
1988 video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System

Bionic Commando, originally released as Hitler's Resurrection: Top Secret in Japan, is a 1988 platform game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is based on the 1987 arcade game Bionic Commando.
As Ladd, a member of the FF Battalion, the player explores each stage and obtains the necessary equipment to progress. Ladd is equipped with a mechanical arm featuring a grappling gun, allowing him to pull himself forward or swing from the ceiling. As such, the series is one of few instances of a platformer in which the player cannot jump. To cross gaps or climb ledges, Ladd must use his bionic arm.
In the instruction manual, the character is only known as "Player". In the ending, his name is revealed as "Ladd". The Game Boy version, a retelling of this game, calls the character "Rad". In the Game Boy Color remake, the main character is unnamed.
Begin with the source’s own compact description: “Bionic Commando (1988 video game)” is 1988 video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through Bionic, Commando and video, not as a finished interpretation.
Why this record matters
The phrase “1988 video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.
The citation trail is more important than the brevity of the summary: it shows where individual claims can be examined in context. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 7, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q55622. 1 of 2 selected statements include explicit references; 2 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1988 and 1987.
The absence of detail may reflect summary conventions rather than a lack of surviving documentation. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
