Biography
Aina Elvius was born on 26 June 1917 in Södermalm, Stockholm. She attended the girls' school Högre allmänna läroverket för flickor in Norrmalm, also in Stockholm, gaining her school leaving certificate in 1937. This is the same year she began studying at Stockholms högskola (college); in 1945, she finished her master's degree in mathematics, physics, chemistry and astronomy. She spent a year working as a teacher at Saltsjöbaden coeducational school in 1946-47.
In 1948, she began her polarimetric studies of galaxies at Stockholm University using Öhman's Polarography and in 1951 she published her first polarization study of the spiral galaxy M63. She was later invited by John Scotville Hall to work at the Lowell Observatory, where she made a series of observations of the polarization of light from galaxies and from nebulae in the Milky Way. She defended her doctoral thesis at Stockholm University College in 1956. In the same year, she became an associate professor of astronomy at Stockholm University.

Why this record matters
“Aina Elvius” is worth following because a concise public description often conceals a longer documentary argument. Here, Aina, Elvius and Swedish provides the most credible route into that argument.
Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Jun 22, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q4946596. VIAF identifies the subject as 65130129. The Library of Congress control number is n89607660. 3 of 3 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1917, 2019, 1937 and 1945.
Overview language is designed for orientation and should not be treated as a substitute for the evidence cited beneath it. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
