Source-derived summary

Aditya-L1 (Sanskrit: Āditya IPA: [aːd̪it̪jɐ] 'Sun', L1 'Lagrange Point 1') is a coronagraphy spacecraft for studying the solar atmosphere, designed and developed by ISRO and various other Indian Space Research Institutes. It is orbiting at about 1.5 million km from Earth in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) between the Earth and the Sun, where it will study the solar atmosphere, solar magnetic storms, and their impact on the environment around the Earth.

It is the first Indian mission dedicated to observing the Sun. Nigar Shaji is the project's director. Aditya-L1 was launched aboard the PSLV-C57 at 11:50 IST on 2 September 2023. It successfully achieved its intended orbit nearly an hour later, and separated from its fourth stage at 12:57 IST. It was inserted at the L1 point on 6 January 2024, at 4:17 pm IST.

Mission objectives

The main objectives of Aditya-L1 are:

To observe the dynamics of the solar chromosphere and corona:

To study chromospheric and coronal heating, the physics of partially ionised plasma, of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their origins, of the coronal magnetic field and heat transfer mechanisms, and of flare exchanges.

To observe the physical particle environment around its position.

To determine the sequence of processes in multiple layers below the corona that lead to solar eruptions.

To study space weather, and the origin, composition and dynamics of solar wind.

To observe the in-situ particle and plasma environment providing data for the study of particle dynamics from the Sun.

Editorial summary

The public source identifies “Aditya-L1” as indian solar probe. This brief keeps that definition visible, then builds a research path around Aditya-L1, Indian and solar.

Editorial reviewA concise reference frame for defining the subject, testing terminology and identifying the institution closest to the evidence. The current lead gives the account dated anchors—2023, 2024—that can be checked directly. The selected authority fields contribute no independent date. Its value is orientation rather than verdict, with Aditya-L1, Indian and solar providing the first useful test.
Editorial analysis

Why this record matters

A short description can identify a subject without explaining its stakes. For “Aditya-L1”, the useful work is to connect “indian solar probe” to the records capable of establishing context and consequence.

Evidence profile

Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Aug 29, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q2824476. None of the 2 selected statements returned an explicit reference. The first chronological checks are 2023 and 2024.

Critical limits

A concise general-reference account can conceal disagreements about scope, terminology or the weight assigned to individual sources. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.

How to read it

Use the entry as an orientation point, then follow its citations and revision history. Names, dates and institutional relationships should be checked against the original record.

Three-step research path

  1. Establish the record: confirm the title “Aditya-L1”, its source revision and the description used here.
  2. Expand the search: follow Aditya-L1 primary sources, Aditya-L1 archive and Aditya-L1 research across catalogues and specialist indexes.
  3. Test the account: compare the strongest cited source with the responsible institution’s current record and note any disagreement.

Questions for further research

  1. Which source most directly establishes the central claim about “Aditya-L1”?
  2. Which cited source is closest to the event, object or claim?
  3. Which institution is responsible for the underlying evidence?
