ABP News
Indian news channel

ABP News is an Indian free-to-air Hindi-language television news channel, owned by the ABP Group. Initially launched as Star News in 1998, it was later acquired by the ABP Group.
It had won the title of the Best Hindi-language News Channel at the 21st edition of the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2022.
History
ABP News was launched as Star News on 18 February 1998 by the satellite television provider Star India in partnership with the New Delhi Television Ltd company, the latter being responsible for producing the content on the channel. Initially, a bilingual channel broadcasting in both English and Hindi, its programming turned into Hindi-only since 2003, when Star's deal with NDTV had expired.
In the same year, the Indian government had introduced a guideline limiting foreign equity in the national news business to 26%. As Star India was a wholly owned subsidiary of the former Hong Kong–based company Satellite Television Asia Region Ltd (Star TV), it enters a joint venture with the Anandabazar Patrika Group to form a new company named Media Content and Communications Services India Pvt Ltd (MCCS), which took the control of Star News's operations. The ABP held a 74% majority stake, while Star India reduced its participation with the remaining 26%.
On 16 April 2012, the ABP Group and Star India announced the end of the Star brand licensing agreement. In addition, Star sells its minority stake in MCCS to the ABP, which in turn renames the channel to ABP News.
Begin with the source’s own compact description: “ABP News” is indian news channel. The dossier treats that line as a proposition to test through News, Indian and news, not as a finished interpretation.
Why this record matters
The phrase “indian news channel” supplies a clear boundary for inquiry. It also exposes the unanswered questions: who defined that boundary, when it became stable and which sources sit outside it.
Named sources, stable identifiers and responsible institutions provide the strongest route from overview to verifiable evidence. The source revision retrieved here is dated Sep 21, 2026. The linked authority identifier is Q3630156. 2 of 3 selected statements include explicit references; 0 carry qualifiers and 0 use preferred rank. The first chronological checks are 1998, 2022, 2003 and 2012.
The absence of detail may reflect summary conventions rather than a lack of surviving documentation. The lead is largely declarative, so disagreement and counter-evidence require a deliberate search beyond the opening account. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
