Dimethandrolone undecanoate
chemical compound

Dimethandrolone undecanoate (DMAU), also known by its developmental code name CDB-4521, is an experimental androgen/anabolic steroid (AAS) and progestogen medication which is under development as a potential birth control pill for men. It is taken by mouth, but can also be given by injection into muscle.
Side effects of DMAU include mild weight gain and mild decreases in levels of HDL cholesterol. It may also cause low estrogen levels and associated symptoms such as reduced sexual function and decreased bone mineral density. DMAU is an AAS, and hence is an agonist of the androgen receptor, the biological target of androgens like testosterone. It is also a progestin, or a synthetic progestogen, and hence is an agonist of the progesterone receptor, the biological target of progestogens like progesterone. Due to its androgenic and progestogenic activity, DMAU has antigonadotropic effects. These effects result in reversible suppression of sperm production and are responsible for the contraceptive effects of DMAU in men. The medication has no estrogenic activity. DMAU is a prodrug of dimethandrolone.
This brief starts where responsible research should: with the source description of “Dimethandrolone undecanoate” as chemical compound. Everything that follows is an evidence route, not borrowed authority.
Why this record matters
The subject matters to the science & nature register because the source frames it as chemical compound. Its deeper value depends on whether names, dates, institutions and citations support that framing.
Datasets, specimens, observations and peer-reviewed methods provide the appropriate test for the technical claims summarized here. The source revision retrieved here is dated Dec 20, 2025. The linked authority identifier is Q28132006. None of the 0 selected statements returned an explicit reference.
A general summary may omit uncertainty, sample limits or methodological disagreement that is explicit in the technical record. The source lead contains qualifying language; that uncertainty should survive quotation, summary and reuse. Authority statements aid reconciliation but still require their own references, qualifiers and ranks to be checked.
